    Oxted (Ac Stede), the place of Oak Trees

    Oxted is derived from the words "Ac Stede"
    Stede: being the old English word for place, (related to stathr (Norse) and statiō (Latin)
    Ac: Oak (wood or tree)

    Oxted is famous for its brass band: Oxted Band
    and its annual pram race: The Oxted Pram Race
    In 2008, the The Daily Telegraph listed Oxted in Britons top twenty richest towns: Oxted in the top 20 richest towns list
