Redhill got its name from the red-sandstone hill (south of the town centre)

    • Redhill Common was named “redehelde” (red slope) by the Saxons (Early 14th century)

    • In the 16th century it was named “Redd Hyll”
    • In the 17th it was renamed to “Red Hill by Reigate”
    • In the 19th Century the town was named “Warwick Town” (due to the “Warwick Road” running through the centre of the town)
    • Later in the 19th Century the name “Redhill” become a more popular name
